United Way Mumbai has agreed to subsidise by 50% the course fees for training the officials of the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) under the Dattak Vasti Yojana (Slum Adoption Scheme) run by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.
The training program is being organized by the Center for Slum Studies at Ruia College. The course will be made available to 2 officials from each of the 323 registered CBOs with the MCGM. Thus a total of 646 officials will be trained.
The course will be conducted over 13 batches of 50 participants each. The first batch started its training on 18th December, 06 comprising of members from 25 CBOs in K(E) ward.
PILOT PROJECT STARTED with 5 CBO's
It has been planned that a pilot project will be carried out in four slums whereby an attempt will be made to facilitate segregation and local composting of the wet waste. The objective is to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill sites. |
